Saskatoon Best Buy Experiences Surge in Foot Traffic on Boxing Day
Foot traffic soared at the Best Buy location on 8th Street in Saskatoon on December 26, 2023, as shoppers flocked to take advantage of post-holiday sales. Store leader Rokhan Sarwar highlighted that Boxing Day is consistently the busiest day of the year for the team, noting the significant increase in in-store traffic. “We do see an increase in in-store traffic. A lot of customers, obviously being a holiday in Canada and a tradition in Canada, we generally see higher foot traffic, and it’s one of our busiest days of the year,” Sarwar stated.
Preparation for this peak shopping day commenced weeks in advance. Staff reported that a queue formed outside the store before it opened on Friday. Sarwar explained the importance of strategic planning for the event, saying, “This year we have door crashers. So there’s a lot of emphasis on getting those ready for customers. And the preparation is long for a big day like this.”
Despite the growing trend of online shopping during the holiday season, Sarwar confirmed that the store still experienced a substantial number of customers choosing to shop in person. He noted that many shoppers utilize online features to reserve items but still prefer to collect their purchases at the store. “We have a combination of both an online and an in-store shopping,” he added.
The day is undoubtedly long for the Best Buy staff, but Sarwar expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to meet the demands of the day. “The good thing is the day before it’s Christmas Day, so they’re well rested. But it’s something they know that’s expected of them and they show up. They generally have high energy throughout the day. And we make sure we take care of our staff with breaks so that they’re full of energy to help our customers,” Sarwar remarked.
As the holiday season progresses, Saskatoon’s Best Buy continues to adapt to the evolving shopping landscape, balancing traditional in-store experiences with the convenience of online shopping. The success of Boxing Day not only reflects consumer enthusiasm but also highlights the effectiveness of preparation and teamwork within the retail environment.
