Six New Businesses Launch with Support from Starter Company Plus

Six small businesses in Renfrew County, Ontario, have secured financial support through the Starter Company Plus program after completing its fall 2025 business training initiative. This program, facilitated by Enterprise Renfrew County and funded by the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, aims to assist entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas, as well as those operating for five years or less.

Participants in the program benefit from three months of comprehensive business coaching, mentoring, and instruction from professional trainers. They also receive guidance in developing essential business plans and cash flow projections. At the program’s conclusion, participants are invited to pitch their business ideas for non-repayable grants of up to $5,000. This fall, a total of $30,000 in grants was distributed among six successful businesses.

Supporting Local Entrepreneurs

The recipients of the grants include a diverse range of enterprises. They are:

– Steve Benoit, Benoit Anishinaabe Ventures (Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation)
– Laura Galenkamp, Lulo Gardens Inc. (Bonnechere Valley)
– Tania Leclerc, Lost Loon Groundskeeping (Admaston/Bromley)
– Sydney Montgomery, Flock’n Fleet Repair Inc. (Whitewater Region)
– Matthew O’Leary, Remind Media Inc. (Laurentian Valley)
– Kelsea Shore, Wool Witch Tattoo (Horton)

Among the recipients, Sydney Montgomery, a military veteran and co-owner of Flock’n Fleet Repair, emphasized the program’s impact on her entrepreneurial journey. “The key takeaway is that pricing must be intentional, and through the cash flow forecasting process, I calculated the true costs of operating a business,” Montgomery noted. She added, “I also learned, by meeting with the expert trainers and mentor, that it takes a village for a small business to succeed.”
