Burlington Teen Organizes Porch Pickup to Combat Food Insecurity
A determined effort by 14-year-old Ayden Zbikowski has made a significant impact on food access for families in Burlington. On December 21, 2025, Ayden executed a porch pickup initiative aimed at supporting those facing food insecurity in the area. This project not only highlights the spirit of community service but also emphasizes the importance of accessible food donation.
Ayden’s initiative began with a proactive approach. On December 19, he distributed over 200 flyers across the Brant Hills and Tyandaga neighborhoods. The flyers informed residents about the opportunity to donate food from the comfort of their homes. Alongside his father, Arek Zbikowski, Ayden returned two days later to collect the donations left on porches. The effort proved fruitful, resulting in the collection of 289 pounds of food for the Burlington Food Bank.
Making Donations Easy and Accessible
Ayden’s goal was clear: to simplify the donation process, especially during the busy holiday season when the need for support often increases. By bringing the donation drive directly to people’s homes, he addressed common barriers such as transportation issues, time constraints, and uncertainty about how to contribute.
This porch pickup is part of Ayden’s broader initiative, which has already raised more than 1,278 pounds of food and $925 in 2025. Those interested in supporting Ayden’s cause can do so through his website, aydenfooddrive.com, or by following his updates on Instagram at @aydenzburl.
The food collected through these efforts is directed to the Burlington Food Bank, an organization dedicated to ensuring that food access is dignified and inclusive for all community members. The food bank provides a variety of options, including canned goods, packaged items, and fresh produce, helping families meet their nutritional needs.
Community Impact and Food Bank Operations
In addition to the food offerings, the Burlington Food Bank prioritizes privacy and respect for its clients. Initial registrations are conducted in a confidential manner, ensuring that clients feel safe and respected. The organization encourages mutual courtesy between clients and staff, fostering a welcoming environment.
To register with the Burlington Food Bank, individuals must provide proof of identity and residency, along with identification for each family member. Once registered, clients can visit the food bank once every three weeks during regular business hours. The organization is located at 1A – 1254 Plains Road East in Burlington, operating Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00, Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00, and Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00. It is closed on Sundays and will also be closed for the holidays from December 25, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
Ayden Zbikowski’s initiative serves as a poignant reminder that community care can originate from small, thoughtful actions. Through his porch pickup, he demonstrates that making a difference in the lives of others can start with a few flyers and a genuine commitment to helping those in need.
