Discover Exciting Events at Julia Hull District Library This Winter
The Julia Hull District Library invites the community to participate in an engaging array of events this winter, including a Winter Reading Challenge and various creative activities. These events are designed to cater to a wide audience, promoting literacy and community interaction.
Winter Reading Challenge
The library’s adults-only Winter Reading Challenge is underway, accessible through the Beanstack app. Participants can log their reading and related activities to earn virtual badges and tickets, which are eligible for entry into a draw for one of two grand prizes. The challenge will conclude on February 28, 2024, encouraging participants to immerse themselves in literature during the colder months.
Upcoming Events for All Ages
On February 3, the library will host a unique event titled “Tween Scene: Candy Heart Catapults,” where participants in grades 5-8 can build catapults to launch candy hearts at castle targets. This fun and interactive event begins at 18:00, and registration is necessary by calling 815-645-8611.
Adults seeking a creative outlet can join the “Cocoa & Crafts” session on February 7. From 13:00 to 15:00, attendees can enjoy hot cocoa while crafting seasonal tumblers or mugs using precut vinyl designs. This drop-in event fosters a relaxed atmosphere for connection and creativity.
A special character story time will take place on February 16 at 13:00, featuring the beloved character from Eric Carle’s classic, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Participants of all ages are encouraged to bring their cameras for a photo opportunity with the caterpillar after enjoying storytelling, songs, and a craft. Registration is required.
For seniors, the library will host a Bingo event on February 20 at 10:00. This gathering will provide an opportunity for coffee, donuts, conversation, and a lively game of bingo, with registration necessary.
Music lovers can enjoy a performance titled “Hot ‘N’ Cole!” on February 23 at 18:30. Cynthia & Matt from Nostalgia Entertainment will perform a selection of songs by the legendary Cole Porter, including classics like “Too Darn Hot” and “I Love Paris.” Due to the popularity of this event, early registration is advised.
Finally, the library will host a Trivia Night fundraiser on February 27 from 19:00 to 21:00. This event aims to raise funds for the Friends of the Library to support various programs and services. Teams of four to six players can participate for a fee of $10 per player. Registration is required to secure a spot in this engaging evening of trivia.
