Elwood School District 203 Appoints Dr. Matt Swick as Superintendent

The Elwood Community Consolidated School District 203 Board of Education has appointed Dr. Matt Swick as its new superintendent. This decision was made during the board meeting held on December 9, 2023, and Swick will succeed Tim Page, who plans to retire on June 30, 2026. Dr. Swick currently serves as the assistant superintendent at Wilmington School District 209U.

In a statement from the district, Dr. Swick expressed his gratitude: “I am truly humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff of Elwood as the next superintendent.” He emphasized his personal connection to the community, noting that his wife, Melissa, and her two brothers attended school in Elwood during their elementary and middle school years.

Dr. Swick’s familiarity with Elwood extends beyond his family ties. He has spent considerable time in the area visiting his wife’s parents and mentioned that he holds “a great deal of respect” for the community. His professional experience at District 209U includes collaborative efforts with District 203 on initiatives related to federal funding.

Both districts have worked together to advocate for essential federal Impact Aid funds, which they receive due to the federal government’s ownership of significant areas such as the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Dr. Swick highlighted the importance of these funds, stating, “I look forward to continuing to work together while serving in this new role as Superintendent of Elwood School.”

Dr. Swick’s appointment marks a new chapter for Elwood School District 203, as he brings both local knowledge and extensive administrative experience. The district is optimistic about his leadership and commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for its students and families.
