Horizon School Division Elects New Leadership for 2024

Horizon School Division No. 205 has appointed new leadership for the upcoming year, electing Linda Mattock as board chair and Mark Fedak as vice-chair during its annual organizational meeting held in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. This decision reflects the trustees’ commitment to guiding the division’s educational mission and supporting its community.

In her acceptance remarks, Mattock expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her by fellow trustees. “I’m truly grateful to my fellow trustees for their support. It is an honour to serve as board chair alongside such a dedicated group of leaders,” she stated. She emphasized the board’s ongoing efforts to enhance the success and well-being of students, families, and staff within the Horizon School Division.

Mattock has been a trustee since 2016, representing Subdivision 2, which includes schools in Annaheim, Humboldt, Lake Lenore, Middle Lake, and St. Brieux. Fedak, who has also served as a trustee since 2016 representing Subdivision 4, expressed appreciation for the board’s confidence in his leadership. “I appreciate the trust the board has placed in me,” he remarked. “I’m looking forward to continuing our work to support safe, caring learning environments and positive outcomes for every student in Horizon.”

As the new vice-chair, Fedak oversees schools in Drake, Englefeld, Lanigan, Muenster, and Watson. Both leaders are poised to work closely with their fellow trustees to further the division’s goals and foster an inclusive educational environment.

The board expressed its gratitude to outgoing chair Garth Anderson for his leadership throughout the past year. His guidance has been instrumental in navigating the various challenges faced by the division.

The organization of the board is governed by The Education Act, 1995, which mandates the annual meeting to elect table officers and address governance matters, including indemnity rates and incidental expenses. Horizon’s Board of Education comprises 14 publicly elected trustees, each representing a distinct subdivision, ensuring that local voices are heard in educational decision-making.

The newly elected leadership is set to embark on their term with a clear vision: to enhance educational opportunities and create a supportive atmosphere for all students in the Horizon School Division.
