Huntley District 158 Appoints Chuck Ruth to School Board Vacancy

Huntley School District 158 has appointed Chuck Ruth to fill a vacancy on its school board following the unexpected resignation of Andy Bittman on December 30, 2023. The decision was made during a board meeting on Monday, marking Ruth’s return to a leadership role he previously occupied as school board president.

Ruth has deep connections to the Huntley area, with roots spanning five generations. In a statement released by the district, he expressed his commitment to maintaining the district’s reputation as one of the best school systems in Illinois. “It is my fervent desire to support and serve Huntley School District 158,” he said.

Ruth’s extensive background includes various leadership positions beyond his role in education. He currently serves on the board of directors for Northwestern Medicine and Miller Midwestern Die Company. His involvement with the University of Illinois Foundation further underscores his dedication to community service and educational advancement.

Community Engagement and Leadership Experience

Ruth has held numerous influential roles over the years. He has served as the supervisor of both Grafton and Coral Townships, and he has chaired the boards of the McHenry County College Foundation and the Centegra Health System. Additionally, he is a founding member of several local organizations, including the Huntley Area Public Library and the American Community Bank & Trust.

His community involvement extends to organizations such as the Huntley Lions Club, Jaycees, and the American Legion, as well as participation in local church activities and the Chamber of Commerce. Board President Paul Troy welcomed Ruth, stating, “His long-standing ties to the community, extensive leadership experience, and strong commitment to public service will be a valuable asset to our board and our school community.”

Ruth previously applied for a school board vacancy in 2023 but was not selected, with Dana Wiley ultimately chosen for the role. Wiley subsequently lost her seat in the April 2025 election. When Bittman resigned, Ruth was among three candidates who applied for the position. Following interviews conducted on Monday, the other candidate withdrew, allowing Ruth to secure the appointment.
