The Joliet Public Library has announced that the Black Road branch will officially reopen on January 2, 2024. Originally closed on December 15, 2023, the branch underwent renovations aimed at enhancing the space for community members.

According to Mallory Hewlett-Cantu, the library’s communication manager, the reopening was delayed due to the need for movers to assemble shelves before organizing the library’s extensive collection. “They’re doing that now and will be doing that all through the weekend,” Hewlett-Cantu stated.

The partial reopening will introduce expanded areas for reading and browsing. The updates include new sections catering to children, teens, and adults, making the library a more inviting space for all ages. While some renovations, particularly in the meeting rooms, are still ongoing and not all furniture has arrived, Hewlett-Cantu expressed optimism about the changes.

“We’re really excited to see the progress. It really looks good,” she said. “I think people will be happy.”

Community members can expect to discover a variety of new features upon the branch’s reopening.
