NCIA Launches $2,000 Scholarships for Heartland Students
High school students from Alberta’s Industrial Heartland can now apply for a scholarship aimed at enhancing diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), environmental sciences, and skilled trades. The Northeast Capital Industrial Association (NCIA) is offering four scholarships, each valued at $2,000, to support students pursuing post-secondary education in fields vital to the region’s economic sustainability.
The NCIA Scholarship aims to empower students by recognizing their academic achievements and contributions through a 500-word essay. This essay should reflect their commitment to a career in STEM, environmental sciences, or trades, as well as their understanding of how innovation and technology can promote a balance between economic growth, environmental responsibility, and community well-being. Additional factors considered in the selection process include extracurricular involvement, personal aspirations, and career goals.
Patrick Howe, Executive Director of NCIA, expressed the importance of this initiative, stating, “Alberta’s Industrial Heartland is filled with talented young people who are shaping the future of our province. This scholarship recognizes the power of diverse perspectives and helps students turn their ambition into impact.”
The NCIA serves as a significant entity in fostering collaboration among member companies, government bodies, and local communities. Its mission is to ensure sustainable industrial growth while maintaining a high quality of life for residents in the region. Howe further elaborated, “By investing in future talent, NCIA is strengthening the foundation of our region and reinforcing a shared vision for growth, sustainability, and opportunity.”
Applications for the scholarship are due by January 31, 2026. Interested students can find detailed application information and eligibility criteria at www.ncia.ca/ncia-scholarship. The not-for-profit NCIA represents industries in Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, Lamont County, and the City of Fort Saskatchewan, making it a key player in the region’s industrial landscape.
This initiative not only highlights the NCIA’s commitment to fostering talent but also underscores the need for diverse representation in crucial sectors that impact the future of Alberta’s economy and community health.
