New Edmonton Public Library Branch Opens with Enhanced Features
A new branch of the Edmonton Public Library (EPL) officially opened on March 15, 2024, in the rapidly developing Heritage Valley area of south Edmonton. This expanded facility replaces the previous library across the street and is nearly three times its size, offering around 10,000 square feet of space designed to meet the growing needs of the local community. The new Heritage Valley Branch, located at 2755 119A St. SW, aims to provide enhanced access to programs, technology, and study areas as the neighborhood continues to grow.
Funding for the expansion was approved by the Edmonton City Council in November 2023. This investment reflects the city’s commitment to improving community resources and accommodating the increasing population in the area. The new branch includes a variety of features intended to enhance user experience, including a dedicated makerspace, a larger program room for storytimes and workshops, and additional study areas that offer quieter environments.
One of the most notable additions to the Heritage Valley Branch is an interactive digital wall, inspired by the installation at the Stanley A. Milner Library in downtown Edmonton. This technology is expected to engage visitors and provide a modern touch to the library experience. According to EPL, the expanded space will facilitate more frequent and diverse programming, while also allowing for greater capacity for community gatherings and educational events.
Library officials emphasize that “your exceptional experience is always our top priority,” underscoring the intention behind the expansion. The previous branch remained operational throughout the relocation process, with efforts made to ensure minimal disruption to services for patrons.
In addition to the enhanced physical space, visitors will find an expanded collection of books, movies, and other materials. More public computers have also been added to improve access to technology and the internet, further supporting the educational needs of the community.
For those interested in learning more about the new branch and its offerings, detailed information is available on the EPL website. The Heritage Valley Public Library is poised to become a central hub for the community, reflecting the city’s dedication to fostering a vibrant, informed, and connected population.
