Plano Public Library Unveils January Programs for All Ages

The Plano Public Library has released its programming schedule for January 2024, featuring a variety of activities designed for families and adults. Located at 15 W. North St., Plano, the library aims to engage the community with events ranging from book clubs to crafting sessions.

Upcoming Events for Adults and Families

On January 20, the library will host Sen. Sue Rezin’s Traveling Office Hours from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Constituents can meet with a representative from the senator’s office to discuss various issues related to state or government agencies. This event does not require prior registration.

Later that evening, a Card Making Class will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Participants, led by Jennifer Boring, will create five handmade Valentine cards. This class is open to adults and high school students, as well as children aged 10 and older when accompanied by an adult. A fee of $5 is required at the time of registration.

The following day, the Wednesday Book Club will meet from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to discuss “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. The book for February will be “The Year of What If” by Phaedra Patrick. New members are welcome, and books can be obtained at the Checkout Desk.

Creative and Community Engagement Opportunities

The library will also feature a new program called the Plot Twisters Book Club on January 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. This club targets adults who enjoy thrillers, starting with “The Family Game” by Catherine Steadman. Registration is required, and space is limited.

A Blood Drive is scheduled for January 28 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. Each blood donation can save up to three lives. Interested individuals can sign up at the library or online at www.versiti.org. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are welcome, and donors will be entered into a raffle for a $100 Visa gift card.

On February 6, 13, 20, and 27, the library will host yoga classes led by certified instructor Jen Penn from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. This welcoming class is designed to help participants improve their mood and reduce stress. Attendees should bring their own mats or use those provided by the library. Registration is required for each class.

The library also offers ongoing activities such as the Knit and Crochet Group, which meets in person every Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Participants can learn and create alongside experienced crochet artist Karen Perez. An online version of this group meets every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Children’s programming includes a Making Music class on January 15 at 10:30 a.m., where children aged 0-5 can enjoy singing, movement, and instruments with music teacher Jessica Ortega. Registration is required for this event.

Other children’s activities include Legos at the Library on January 19 and Babytime on January 22, both of which do not require registration. These events are designed to foster creativity and early literacy skills among young participants.
