Prepare for Summer: Camp Registration Opens Early in Winnipeg
As the school year nears its end, parents in Winnipeg are urged to consider summer camp registration, with many programs already opening for sign-ups. With over 20 weeks until school breaks for summer, planning now can alleviate the stress of unstructured time off for children. This year, a variety of summer camps are available, catering to diverse interests from arts and music to technology and nature.
Explore Creative Opportunities at WAG-Qaumajuq
Registration is currently open for camps at the WAG-Qaumajuq, located at 300 Memorial Blvd. Three art-making summer camp options are available for children aged 7 to 11. These include clay, sculpture, and pottery, as well as adventures in painting. Each camp runs for ten days, with the exception of the cardboard sculpture camp, which lasts nine days due to a statutory holiday on August 3.
Young artists will engage in various mediums, learning techniques in acrylic, watercolour, and pottery. The cardboard sculpture camp encourages creativity through the use of recycled materials, allowing children to design unique 3D art pieces. Camp sessions run every second week from July 6 to August 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are $510 for members and $550 for non-members for the 10-day camps, while the nine-day camp costs $470 for members and $510 for non-members.
Musical Adventures at School of Rock
Parents of aspiring musicians can consider the School of Rock Winnipeg, situated at 657 Corydon Ave., where registration is also open. This camp offers a variety of full- and half-day programs from July 6 to August 28 for children aged 5 to 18. Participants can immerse themselves in different music genres, including metal and grunge, while also engaging in vocal training, songwriting, and production workshops.
Camps are designed to include daily rehearsals, music-based games, and culminate in a concert at the end of the week. Half-day camps are available for ages 5 to 7, while full-day camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are set at $240 for half-day and $450 for full-day camps.
Tech Savvy Fun at Code Ninjas
For children interested in technology, Code Ninjas at 350 North Town Road, Unit 420 offers themed camps focusing on game design, robotics, and graphic design. Registration opens on February 11 at noon, with parents advised to join the digital queue by 11:50 a.m. There are four themed camps available, running weekly from July 6 to August 28, suitable for ages 7 to 14.
Campers will explore modding, retro arcade games, and core programming concepts, all while honing their skills in a fun, engaging environment. Fees are $350 plus GST for five days and $275 for four days during the short week from August 4-7.
Engaging Activities at the University of Manitoba
The University of Manitoba will hold a series of highly sought-after summer camps starting every Monday from July 2 to August 31. These camps cater to children aged 4 to 18, covering a wide range of activities including rhythmic gymnastics, Lego building, science, and cheerleading.
Registration is a straightforward three-step process, and due to high demand, parents are encouraged to act quickly. The university offers a bus service for those unable to drive to the campus, with fees for transportation set at $55 for five days or $44 for the short week in August.
Outdoor Adventures with FortWhyte Alive
FortWhyte Alive offers various camp experiences that immerse children in nature. Camps are divided by the grade children will enter in September, with options including Kinder Camp for ages four to five and programs for older children focusing on canoeing, biking, and environmental education.
These camps run weekly from July 2 to September 4 and include supervision from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fees vary based on the length of the camp experience, providing an affordable option for families looking to engage their children in outdoor activities.
Animal Interaction at Winnipeg Humane Society
The Winnipeg Humane Society will host camps from July 6 to August 28, allowing children aged 6 to 12 to interact with animals while learning about responsible pet ownership. Each week, campers will engage in crafts, outdoor play, and educational programming about the shelter’s animals. The fee is set at $250 for five days and $210 for four days.
As summer approaches, parents are encouraged to explore these diverse options for enriching their children’s summer experiences. Early registration is crucial, as many camps fill up quickly. Preparing now ensures a fun and engaging summer for children of all ages, allowing parents to balance work and family commitments effectively.
