Putnam Libraries Host Health Screenings and Cupid Program
The Putnam County Public Library District’s Granville branch is set to offer a series of engaging health screenings and an entertaining historical presentation in early February. These initiatives aim to promote community health and education, making the library a hub for both wellness and cultural enrichment.
Health screenings will be provided by the Illinois Health Care Consortium (IHCC) at 15:00 on the first Wednesday of each month through February. Residents can access free health checks, including essential readings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and oxygen levels. This opportunity allows community members to monitor their health without any financial burden, encouraging proactive health management.
On February 5, starting at 12:30, the library will host a unique historical presentation titled Cupid Reimagined: Tales of Love and Mischief. The performance, delivered by historical presenter Michelle Gibbons, will explore the evolution of Cupid from a Roman god of desire to a modern symbol of love. Gibbons will portray Cupid as a playful goddess, weaving fictional tales of matchmaking magic and time-traveling romance.
According to the library, the presentation will trace the history of Valentine’s Day, examining its transformation and commercialization in the 19th century. This blend of history and storytelling aims to engage audiences of all ages, providing both entertainment and educational insights into cultural traditions surrounding love and affection.
The Granville branch is located at 214 S. McCoy St. and welcomes community members to partake in these enriching activities. For further details or inquiries, interested individuals can contact the library at 815-339-2038.
These programs reflect the library’s commitment to enhancing community well-being through accessible health services and cultural offerings. By combining health screenings with a lively historical performance, the Granville branch is fostering an environment where learning and health go hand in hand.
