Saskatchewan Grants Over $2.3 Million for School Playgrounds
The Saskatchewan government has approved funding for over 40 projects through its School Playground Equipment Program, which aims to enhance children’s play areas in schools. Launched in the fall of 2025, this initiative has allocated more than $2.3 million to support the construction of new playgrounds and the upgrading of existing equipment on school grounds.
Alana Ross, the Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport, emphasized the importance of playgrounds in child development. “Playgrounds play such an important role in the early development and formative years for children,” she stated in a recent release. “That is why we are proud to support the efforts of parent and school community groups to ensure every child has a place to play.”
Funding Details and Eligibility
Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds, which corresponds to the amount raised by parents, school community councils, and volunteers through fundraising activities. These grants can be utilized for constructing new playgrounds or for replacing and expanding existing facilities.
The program is available to parent and community groups associated with publicly funded schools, with all projects required to take place on school property. Applications for funding are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the current intake period remains open until February 25, 2026.
Future Funding Commitment
To ensure the program’s ongoing success, the Saskatchewan government has committed $3.75 million annually over the next four years. This commitment reflects the province’s dedication to fostering safe and engaging play environments for children.
A full list of guidelines and an online grant application are available for interested parties. This initiative not only aims to improve physical play spaces but also encourages community involvement in the development of local schools.
