Senior Emmaline Burger Named December Student of the Month
Emmaline Burger, a senior at Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling, has been recognized as the Student of the Month for December 2023. The announcement highlights her academic achievements and community involvement, reflecting her dedication to both her studies and extracurricular activities.
Burger, the daughter of Jeff and Joanna Burger, has made significant contributions to her school and community. In her response to what class she finds most engaging, she mentioned the CEO Class taught by Le Hartman. She appreciates the curriculum’s emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking and its practical application, stating that the class encourages students to think creatively and learn from local business leaders.
As she looks ahead to her future, Burger plans to pursue a degree in bio-medical engineering at a four-year university. Her aspirations include becoming a medical or pharmaceutical sales representative in the Chicagoland area after graduation.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Burger actively participates in extracurricular activities that enrich her high school experience. One of her favorite activities is her involvement in Journalism, where she enjoys expressing her creativity and learning skills in layout design and visual presentation. She also works at Culver’s in Dixon, a role she describes as rewarding due to the positive environment and the joy of being surrounded by custard and cheese curds.
Meaningful Experiences and Future Aspirations
Reflecting on her time at Newman, Burger shared a particularly meaningful experience as the student director of the St. John Henry Newman House System. This initiative has allowed her to witness the impact of community-building activities, such as encouraging students to support their houses during competitions and engaging with local nursing homes. She expressed that facilitating these connections among students has been a fulfilling aspect of her school life.
Looking towards her future, Burger has a heartfelt aspiration to give back to her community. She also dreams of owning two golden retrievers, which she plans to name Zeus and Goose. Her vision reflects a strong commitment to her roots and a desire to contribute positively to her surroundings.
Emmaline Burger’s recognition as Student of the Month serves not only as an acknowledgment of her efforts but also as an inspiration for her peers at Newman Central Catholic High School. Her journey exemplifies the potential for young individuals to make meaningful contributions to their communities while pursuing their academic and professional goals.
