Argenteuil Reports Strong Population Growth Across Municipalities

The Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil has reported significant population growth across all its municipalities for the year 2025. According to data published in La Gazette officielle du Québec in late December 2025, the total population in Argenteuil increased by 844 individuals, marking a rise of 2.24 percent, bringing the overall population to 38,581.

Brownsburg-Chatham led the way with the addition of 345 permanent residents, raising its population from 8,146 in 2024 to 8,491 in 2025—a notable increase of 4.23 percent. Following closely, Lachute added 216 residents, growing its population from 15,292 to 15,508, a rise of 1.41 percent. Together, these two municipalities account for approximately 66.21 percent of the MRC’s total population.

Growth Across All Municipalities

Gore Township recorded the third-largest growth, welcoming 79 new residents, which brought its population to 2,765. Mille-Isles also saw an increase, adding 55 residents for a total population of 1,893. Other municipalities within the MRC reported varied growth rates as well.

Saint-André-d’Argenteuil saw its population rise by 52 individuals, reaching 3,309. The Village of Grenville added 30 residents, bringing its total to 1,896, while Grenville-sur-la-Rouge reported an increase of 10 residents, raising its population to 3,050. The Township of Harrington welcomed 25 permanent residents, resulting in a population of 979, and the Township of Wentworth added 22 residents, bringing its total to 689.
