Queer-Friendly Games Night Set for January 16 at Bayside Bistro
The Comox United Church’s Affirm Committee is organizing a Games Night on January 16, 2024, from 19:00 to 21:00 at the Bayside Bistro. This event aims to provide a welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to engage in a variety of games. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite games or learn new ones from others.
The event will be secular and emphasizes inclusivity. According to the Affirm Committee, “We recognize that many members of the Queer Community have had a historically negative experience with churches.” The committee is committed to ensuring that the evening remains focused on community-building rather than religious messaging.
Admission to the Games Night is free, but tickets are recommended and can be obtained through Eventbrite. The committee emphasizes that no evangelizing or preaching will be allowed during the event to ensure a comfortable environment for all attendees.
Dining and Community Engagement
Guests will have the option to purchase food from the Bayside Bistro’s regular menu, which features items such as sushi, maki rolls, and onigiri. The venue is conveniently located at 2760 Cliffe Ave, Unit #5, directly across from the Driftwood Mall.
This Games Night is part of a series of community events organized by the Affirm Committee. Previous gatherings included a baseball game in September and a film screening of Emergence: Out of the Shadows, which explores the experiences of queer South Asians in British Columbia. In November, the committee hosted an Improv Theatre evening, further highlighting their commitment to diverse forms of engagement.
These events serve as a platform for fostering understanding and connection within the community. The Affirm Committee continues to strive for an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to participate and share experiences.
