Oboard Introduces Centralized Check-In System for Async Teams
Oboard, a provider of OKR and KPI tracking software, has launched a centralized check-in system aimed at enhancing visibility for asynchronous teams. This new feature addresses the challenges posed by asynchronous work environments, where progress can often be difficult to track in real-time. By consolidating essential updates and contextual information into one workflow, Oboard aims to help teams maintain momentum without the need for excessive meetings.
Enhancing Visibility in Asynchronous Work Environments
The rise of asynchronous work has made it increasingly difficult for teams to have a clear view of project progress. While teams may be working hard, the lack of a shared platform to capture changes can lead to a disconnect in understanding achievements and challenges. Oboard’s latest update is designed to mitigate this issue by offering a centralized check-in system where teams can easily see how goals evolve week by week.
According to Margo Sakova, head of marketing at Oboard, the new system facilitates better tracking of objectives and key results (OKRs) by bringing together progress data and narrative context. This integration allows teams to remain aligned even when operating on different schedules. The structured check-in workflow serves as a coherent story of how goals change over time, which is often missing in asynchronous environments.
Key Features of the Centralized Check-In System
Oboard’s check-in system incorporates several features designed to streamline the reporting process:
- A centralized check-in feed that displays all updates in chronological order, including the author, timestamp, progress changes, and current status. This feature helps create a clear narrative of goal evolution, making it easier for teams to understand their progress.
- Instant visibility into when a goal was last updated, accessible across the Home page, Dashboards, Alignment view, and Roadmap. This capability helps teams differentiate between genuine stagnation and simply missing updates, which is crucial in asynchronous settings.
- A streamlined check-in window that allows users to update progress values and add context simultaneously, reducing the need for back-and-forth communication across multiple tools.
- An automatic historical timeline linked to every objective or metric that shows the sequence of past updates. This feature eliminates the need to sift through spreadsheets, chats, or emails to find historical data.
- A lightweight collaboration layer enabling teammates to reply directly to a check-in, ensuring conversations stay connected to the respective work.
Additionally, Oboard has implemented flexible check-in reminders that can be scheduled according to team preferences. Users can set notifications to be delivered weekly, biweekly, monthly, or on a custom schedule via platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, email, or directly within the Oboard application.
For asynchronous teams, the benefit is clear: OKR check-ins no longer rely on someone remembering to prompt them or on everyone being available simultaneously. These reminders foster a predictable reporting cycle without necessitating additional meetings or coordination, ensuring that goal visibility is maintained even when team schedules do not align.
The release of this centralized check-in system comes at a time when more organizations are embracing asynchronous workflows and seeking efficient ways to keep work visible without increasing their meeting loads. Oboard’s update aligns with this trend by providing a structure that allows teams to operate effectively, regardless of their working hours.
By consolidating updates into a single workflow, Oboard aims to save teams significant time that would otherwise be spent on weekly correspondence. Teams interested in exploring this workflow can do so through Oboard’s demo environment, which showcases the full capabilities of the system.
