Oboard Introduces Centralized Check-In System for Async Teams
Oboard, a provider of OKR (Objectives and Key Results) and KPI (Key Performance Indicators) tracking software, has launched a centralized check-in system aimed at improving visibility for asynchronous teams. This innovative solution addresses the challenges of tracking progress in environments where team members may not always be online at the same time. The new system is designed to streamline communication and ensure that goal evolution is easily monitored, even when team members operate on different schedules.
Enhancing Visibility in Asynchronous Work
The rise of asynchronous work has made it increasingly difficult for teams to gauge their progress. While teams may be working swiftly, the absence of a shared platform to capture changes can lead to confusion and a lack of clear direction. In response, Oboard’s latest update integrates progress data with narrative context into a single workflow, enabling teams to track movement effectively.
Margo Sakova, head of marketing at Oboard, emphasized that regular check-ins are crucial for keeping the OKR framework operational. “Check-ins serve as recurring touchpoints that reveal what has advanced, what has stalled, and which assumptions may require reevaluation,” she noted. In asynchronous settings, signals often become fragmented across various tools and time zones, making it harder to maintain a cohesive view of progress.
Key Features of the New Check-In System
The centralized check-in system consolidates essential elements of progress reporting into one accessible workflow. Key features include:
- A centralized check-in feed that displays every update in chronological order, detailing the author, timestamp, progress change, and current status. This creates a clear narrative of goal evolution, a perspective that asynchronous teams often struggle to achieve.
- Immediate visibility into the last update of any goal, accessible across the Home page, Dashboards, Alignment view, and Roadmap. This feature helps teams differentiate between genuine stagnation and simply missed updates, which is vital when team members operate in different time zones.
- A streamlined check-in window for users to update progress values and provide context simultaneously, reducing the need for back-and-forth communication between tools.
- An automatic historical timeline for every objective or metric, showing the sequence of past updates without digging through spreadsheets or emails. The latest check-in is visible directly from the update window, with older entries accessible in the comments section.
- A lightweight collaboration feature allowing teammates to respond directly to a check-in, keeping conversations aligned with their context.
These features aim to support the asynchronous rhythm of teams while eliminating unnecessary meetings and enhancing overall communication.
To further encourage consistent reporting, Oboard has introduced flexible check-in reminders. Users can set reminders on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, receiving notifications through popular platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, or directly within the app. This functionality ensures that OKR check-ins are not reliant on individuals remembering to initiate them or on team members being available simultaneously.
The new system aims to establish a predictable reporting cycle without additional meetings or coordination, allowing goals to remain visible even when schedules do not align. These reminders serve as gentle nudges that can significantly impact whether goals are maintained in focus within distributed environments.
As more organizations adopt asynchronous workflows, the need for tools that enhance visibility without burdening teams with meetings increases. Oboard’s updated check-in system is positioned to meet this demand by integrating all updates into a single, cohesive workflow, thereby saving teams valuable time in their weekly correspondence.
Teams interested in experiencing the new workflow can explore Oboard’s demo environment to see the check-in system in action.
