Razer Revives Iconic Boomslang Mouse for 20th Anniversary with 45K DPI
Razer has launched the Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition, marking the return of its iconic gaming mouse two decades after its original debut. The new model features a striking design reminiscent of the original 1990s version, but it boasts cutting-edge technology, including a remarkable 45,000 DPI optical sensor. This limited edition is restricted to just 1,337 units, each uniquely serialized, with the special unit #1337 reserved for a dedicated fan.
The original Razer Boomslang, released at a time when most mice were still beige and ball-based, introduced a sleek snake-head shape and a mechanical sensor that offered 2,000 DPI. Razer claims this innovation transformed the mouse from a mere accessory into a sought-after performance tool. The new Boomslang aims to evoke nostalgia among early adopters while integrating modern features that appeal to current gamers.
Modern Features and Design
The updated Boomslang retains the distinctive snake-head outline and ambidextrous form, maintaining the low, wide profile that made the original a standout. The translucent shell and underglow lighting pay homage to its predecessor, now enhanced with a nine-zone Razer Chroma RGB system. This allows for customizable lighting effects through the Razer Synapse software, providing both aesthetic appeal and modern functionality.
Internally, the mouse is equipped with the Razer Focus Pro 45K optical sensor, achieving an impressive 99.8 percent resolution accuracy. The device features HyperPolling Wireless, enabling a polling rate of up to 8,000 Hz, significantly improving responsiveness. Additionally, the mouse utilizes Gen-4 optical switches for its primary clicks, boasting a lifespan of 100 million clicks without debounce delay.
Enhanced Connectivity and User Experience
The Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition also introduces advanced charging and connectivity options. It is entirely wireless and comes with the Razer Mouse Dock Pro, which serves as both a charging base and a wireless receiver. Placing the mouse on the dock initiates automatic charging while supporting the high polling rate via a single USB cable. This represents a significant upgrade from the wired-only original model, reflecting advancements in gaming mouse technology.
The materials used in the new Boomslang have been upgraded to provide a premium feel. The primary buttons are now covered in PU leather, enhancing grip and tactile feedback compared to the hard plastic of earlier models. Additionally, the customizable Chroma underglow can showcase up to 16.8 million colors and effects, with eight programmable controls available for macros and profiles.
The release of the Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition serves as a reminder of how far gaming mice have evolved since their inception. It celebrates the legacy of a product that once redefined gaming peripherals while showcasing the technological advancements achieved over the past two decades. For enthusiasts of early Razer gear, this limited edition mouse offers a nostalgic journey alongside the performance capabilities expected in a modern device.
