Severe weather is set to impact parts of Atlantic Canada, as icy temperatures and high winds move into the region. Starting today, residents of New Brunswick will experience significantly colder conditions, with temperatures expected to plunge between -30 and -33 degrees Celsius. This cold snap is anticipated to last until Friday morning.

In Nova Scotia, while most snowfall warnings have been lifted, a snow squall warning remains in effect for the Cape Breton Highlands. This follows the recent nor’easter that brought substantial snowfall to the area. The Environment Canada agency has issued a coastal flooding statement for the southwestern shores, particularly from Digby to Yarmouth. Residents are warned of elevated sea levels that might surpass high astronomical tides, raising concerns for coastal communities.

Wind warnings are also in place for the St. John’s region of Newfoundland. Wind gusts are forecast to reach up to 100 kilometres per hour until early Thursday. The final remnants of Wednesday’s heavy snowfall were reported on the Bonavista Peninsula by midnight, contributing to the challenging weather conditions.

The rapid shift in weather underscores the unpredictable nature of winter in Atlantic Canada. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge residents to stay informed about ongoing weather advisories.

As conditions evolve, the impact on daily life and travel remains a priority for local organizations and emergency services. Residents are encouraged to take precautions and prepare for possible disruptions due to the extreme weather.
