Fatal Collision Claims Life of Pedestrian in Mission
On January 10, 2024, a tragic collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Lougheed Highway in Mission, resulting in the death of a man at the scene. The incident took place at approximately 19:00 local time and prompted an immediate response from the local police.
In the wake of the collision, the Mission Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) initiated an investigation with assistance from the BC RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS). The highway has been closed between Grand Street and Wardrop Street as officers work to gather evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have confirmed that impairment has been ruled out for the driver involved in the collision. This conclusion allows investigators to focus on other factors that may have contributed to the unfortunate event.
Public safety officials are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes to prevent additional congestion. Updates regarding road closures and traffic conditions can be accessed through DriveBC, the provincial authority responsible for managing transportation information.
The community is left mourning the loss of life, and local authorities are committed to thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the collision. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
