Four Fatal Snowmobile Accidents Claim Lives in Quebec

The weekend proved tragic for snowmobilers in Quebec, as four separate accidents resulted in three fatalities and one person missing. Quebec Provincial Police (SQ) are currently investigating these incidents, which unfolded throughout Saturday, February 15, 2026.

The most recent accident occurred around 21:30 on Gage Road in Stanbridge East, located in the Eastern Townships. According to Sergeant Valérie Beauchamp, spokesperson for the SQ, a 47-year-old man lost control of his snowmobile and veered into a ditch. He was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Earlier that day, at approximately 18:30, police responded to a serious incident in Saint-David-de-Falardeau, part of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Three snowmobilers fell through the ice of Lake La Mothe. While two men in their twenties managed to escape and were treated by paramedics, the third man, believed to be in his forties, remains missing. SQ divers have been deployed to locate and recover the body.

Emergency responders were also dispatched to a fatal snowmobile accident that took place around 17:00 in Hemmingford, situated in the Montérégie region. A 47-year-old woman, riding alone on trail number 5, lost control of her snowmobile and collided with a tree. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The victim was a resident of nearby Saint-Patrice-de-Sherrington.

The series of tragic events began earlier on Saturday at approximately 12:40 in Mont-Carmel, located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. A collision occurred between a snowmobile and a pickup truck on Route 287. The snowmobiler, aged 57, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by the truck. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

These incidents underscore the dangers associated with snowmobiling, particularly in challenging winter conditions. Authorities are urging snowmobilers to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations to prevent further tragedies. The investigations into these accidents are ongoing, with police seeking to determine the circumstances surrounding each incident.
