Kelowna RCMP Confirm Death at Bertram Park, No Foul Play Suspected
A person has been confirmed dead following a two-day search operation at Bertram Creek Regional Park in Kelowna, British Columbia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) teams were deployed to the area on January 31 and February 1, 2024, following reports of a sudden death.
RCMP Corporal Steven Lang stated that there is currently no suspicion of criminal activity related to the incident. He emphasized the importance of respecting the deceased’s family, which is why further details will not be disclosed.
Search and Rescue Operations
The search operation involved 25 members from COSAR, who worked tirelessly over the two-day period. According to Ed Henzel, Search Manager for COSAR, the teams conducted a thorough search of the park, which is known for its scenic landscapes and hiking trails.
The involvement of the BC Coroner’s Service indicates that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is underway. As part of standard procedure, the service will determine the cause of death and provide support to the family during this difficult time.
Witnesses in the area expressed their condolences and concern for the family affected by this tragedy. Community members noted the high level of professionalism displayed by both the RCMP and COSAR throughout the operation.
As investigations continue, the community is left to mourn the loss while awaiting further information from authorities.
