Lane Reductions Start at Queen and Broadview for Major Repairs
Beginning Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the intersection of Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue will see significant lane reductions. The city will implement one lane in each direction as part of a project focused on replacing aging streetcar tracks and watermains.
Starting at 07:00, the lane reductions will take effect on Queen Street East between Broadview Avenue and Davies Avenue. The City of Toronto is collaborating with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to address the infrastructure needs in this busy east-end area. According to the city’s official website, “The City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are renewing aging streetcar tracks on Queen Street East between Broadview Avenue and Davies Avenue.”
Details of the Project
The project includes the replacement of two watermains, which are over 112 years old. This work will occur within the same project limits, as well as on Munro Street. The necessary changes aim to enhance the reliability and safety of the water supply and transit services in the area.
As the construction progresses, the city anticipates that lane closures will affect traffic in the vicinity for approximately three months. The completion date for the entire project is projected for April 2026. Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
Officials emphasize the importance of these upgrades for the sustainability of public transit and infrastructure in Toronto. The work is part of a broader initiative to modernize the city’s aging systems and improve service reliability for residents and visitors alike.
Motorists and pedestrians should remain vigilant in the area as construction continues. The city will provide updates on any changes to traffic patterns and timelines, ensuring that the community is informed throughout the project.
