Local Volunteers Bring Holiday Cheer to 85 Children in Peru

On December 16, 2025, over 50 volunteers gathered at the City of Peru Public Safety Complex to wrap presents for the Blue and Red Christmas for Kids initiative. This program is set to deliver gifts to 85 children in the community on December 19, ensuring that families in need receive personalized presents during the holiday season.

The Blue and Red Christmas for Kids program relies heavily on donations from local organizations and individuals. Notably, the City of Peru contributed $2,000 in November, which significantly bolstered the program’s capacity to provide gifts. Area schools participated by supplying toys along with children’s names and their Christmas wish lists, which the fire and police departments utilized to create tailored gift packages.

Longstanding Community Initiative

Established in 2013 by the Peru police and fire departments, the program aims to go beyond merely providing toys.
