Nickeil Alexander-Walker Shines in Career-Best Season with Hawks
Nickeil Alexander-Walker is enjoying a standout season with the Atlanta Hawks, consistently producing career highs across multiple statistical categories. In a recent game against the Toronto Raptors, which ended in a 134-117 loss, Alexander-Walker showcased his progress by scoring 31 points, a performance that underscores his growth as a player in the NBA.
Career Highlights and Team Support
This season, the 27-year-old Toronto native is averaging 20.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.6 blocks per game, marking his best performance since entering the league. Reflecting on his journey, Alexander-Walker emphasized the importance of the support he has received since joining the Hawks in the off-season. “Little, small deeds, over time become big when you add them all up,” he stated. His commitment to improving has been bolstered by the welcoming atmosphere within the organization and the encouragement from teammates and coaches.
Originally drafted 17th overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2019 NBA Draft, Alexander-Walker’s rights were traded to Atlanta before being sent to the New Orleans Pelicans. After playing over two seasons in New Orleans, he was traded to the Utah Jazz and then to the Minnesota Timberwolves before signing a four-year contract worth US$62 million with the Hawks on July 6, 2025.
Coach’s Praise and Team Dynamics
Hawks coach Quin Snyder, who previously coached Alexander-Walker in Utah, expressed admiration for his development. “It’s not just his numbers, which we can all see. You don’t have to be with a player for a long time to get a feel for who they are and what they can do,” Snyder said. He noted that Alexander-Walker has evolved significantly in terms of both offensive and defensive skills.
With an average team age of 23.79 years, the Hawks are among the youngest teams in the NBA. Snyder highlighted the critical role Alexander-Walker plays, especially with four-time All-Star Trae Young sidelined for extended periods. “One of the biggest things he’s given us is a voice both on and off the court,” Snyder remarked. He praised Alexander-Walker’s professionalism and work ethic, qualities that contribute to the team’s dynamic.
As the Hawks prepare to face the Raptors again on Monday night, the team looks to continue building on the momentum generated by Alexander-Walker’s impressive performances. His journey illustrates not only personal growth but also the collective potential of a young team striving for success in the competitive landscape of the NBA.
