Ottawa Police Charge Four After GPS Firm Alerts on Stolen SUV
The Ottawa Police Service has charged four individuals with a total of 48 criminal offenses following a tip-off from a GPS company that led officers to a stolen vehicle. The incident took place on February 25, 2024, when the GPS company reported the location of a stolen Toyota SUV in the 400 block of Brittany Drive.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the East Neighbourhood Resource Team, K9 Unit, and frontline patrol discovered four suspects preparing the vehicle for transportation. According to police, the suspects, comprising three men and a youth, attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.
A thorough investigation revealed that all four individuals had prior involvement in auto thefts. While the Ottawa Police did not disclose the specific charges against each suspect, they confirmed that three of them were out on bail for auto theft-related offenses in multiple jurisdictions across Ontario and Quebec. One suspect was scheduled for sentencing on the same day as the arrest in connection with another auto theft case.

This incident underscores the ongoing issues surrounding vehicle theft in the region and highlights the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and technology companies in combating crime.
