Princeton Posse Force Game 6 with 6-3 Victory Over Kelowna
The Princeton Posse have successfully avoided elimination in the first round of the KIJHL playoffs, defeating the Kelowna Chiefs 6-3. Justice Loewen played a crucial role, scoring two goals, including the game-winner in the third period. With this victory, Princeton has forced a sixth game in the best-of-seven series, which Kelowna currently leads 3-2. The decisive Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday night, March 14, 2024, in Kelowna.
In a match characterized by intense competition, both teams showcased their offensive capabilities. Each starting goaltender faced a significant number of shots, with Gibson Horne of Princeton and Michael Makowsky of Kelowna each making 41 saves. The game began with Princeton taking an early lead through Carson Hebert, who netted his first goal of the playoffs.
The second period saw a rapid exchange of goals. Aiden Bruce equalized for Kelowna just 90 seconds into the frame. The two teams then traded goals, with Princeton’s Loewen and Ben Dods scoring, while Kelowna responded with goals from Matthew Balderston and Kaiden Sydenham. This back-and-forth scoring kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Loewen’s second goal, which came at 7:38 of the third period, proved to be the decisive score of the evening. Following his game-winner, Will Bell added an insurance goal on the power play just four minutes later, extending Princeton’s lead to 5-3. In the closing moments of the game, Cale Chimera sealed the victory by shooting the puck into an empty net.
As the series progresses, the pressure mounts on Kelowna, who now face their third opportunity to close out the series after initially leading 3-0. The upcoming Game 6 promises to be another thrilling encounter, as both teams vie for advancement in the playoffs.
