The double murder trial of Dillon Whitehawk continued this week in Regina, with police officers providing crucial testimony regarding evidence linking him to the 2019 deaths of Jordan Denton and Keenan Toto. Whitehawk faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with these killings.

On January 3, 2019, Regina police responded to a report in the 1900 block of Montreal Street, where a firearm and a cellphone had been discovered. Alongside these items, investigators found a pair of gloves and a balaclava. In court, security footage from the location revealed an individual running to the area shortly before the evidence was located. Additionally, footprints were identified in the snow nearby, suggesting a hasty departure.

The firearm’s serial number remained intact, allowing investigators to trace it back. Analysis of the cellphone revealed images taken by Whitehawk himself, including one where he appeared to wear gloves similar to those found at the scene. The testimony from a Regina Police Service officer detailed Whitehawk’s arrest the following day, January 4, 2019. Officers apprehended him in a convenience store located at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Winnipeg Street based on a tip-off.

Another officer, who was part of the crime reduction unit during the time of the murders, testified that the firearms used in the killings were legally purchased. Whitehawk’s brother, Gabriel Whitehawk, held a possession and acquisition licence (PAL) and acquired two rifles from Cabela’s in Regina — an SKS rifle and a Ruger rifle — both identified as the weapons used in the murders.

A witness, who remains anonymous due to a publication ban, also testified regarding an encounter with Dillon Whitehawk on the morning of November 9, 2019. According to this individual, Whitehawk stopped by asking for .22-calibre bullets, adding further context to the case.

The trial is expected to continue with five additional witnesses scheduled to testify, highlighting ongoing developments in this high-profile case. The proceedings reflect the complexities of the investigation and the efforts of law enforcement to establish a clear connection between the accused and the alleged crimes.
