Thousands in Newfoundland Face Power Outages Due to Transmission Line Trip
Thousands of customers in Newfoundland are experiencing power outages this morning, following a trip on the Labrador-Island Link transmission line. The incident, which occurred on October 27, 2023, has left many residents across the island without electricity.
According to a statement from Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, the outages are affecting various regions, including the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, and extending to the north coast and central Newfoundland. The company has assured the public that it does not expect the disruptions to last long.
Restoration Efforts Underway
The utility provider stated on social media, “These outages should be brief and restoration is underway for many customers.” As of noon, reports indicate that outages span from the Avalon Peninsula to the west coast, including areas as far as Channel-Port aux Basques.
Newfoundland Power is actively working to resolve the situation and restore electricity to all affected customers. The utility company has mobilized teams to address the issues caused by the transmission line trip, prioritizing swift restoration of service.
