Wind Storm Disrupts Power Supply for Thousands in Halifax Area
A powerful wind storm swept through the Halifax area on the evening of March 15, 2024, resulting in widespread power outages affecting thousands of residents. By 18:00, approximately 30,000 customers of Nova Scotia Power experienced disruptions in their electricity service, with the majority of outages concentrated in Halifax.
In anticipation of the storm’s impact, Nova Scotia Power announced it would activate its Emergency Operations Centre. This decision aimed to enhance the company’s response efforts and coordinate restoration activities in the wake of the severe weather. The utility is committed to keeping the public informed as it navigates the challenges posed by the storm.
The peak winds from the storm were forecasted to hit around 23:00, with conditions expected to gradually improve after midnight. Residents have been urged to prepare for potential extended outages and to report any downed power lines or safety hazards to Nova Scotia Power.
