Yarmouth RCMP Investigates Fatal Collision Involving Impaired Driver
The Yarmouth Rural RCMP is conducting an investigation into a fatal collision that occurred on March 15, 2024, in South Ohio. The incident, which is believed to involve impaired driving, resulted in the death of an 82-year-old man from Arcadia.
Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 13:45 local time, following reports of a head-on collision on Hardscratch Road near Highway 340. Initial findings indicate that a GMC Sierra was travelling north when it collided with a Ford Ranger heading south. The impact caused the Ford Ranger to leave the roadway and enter a ditch.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified him as an 82-year-old resident of Arcadia. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 43-year-old man from Yarmouth, was arrested on charges of impaired operation of a conveyance causing death. Officers noted signs of impairment while attending the scene.
The Yarmouth man was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. A blood demand was issued, and a sample was taken for analysis. In order to gather more information, an RCMP collision reconstructionist was dispatched to the site of the accident.
Hardscratch Road at Highway 340 was closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened. The Yarmouth Rural RCMP is urging anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the incident to come forward. Interested parties can contact the RCMP at 902-742-9106.
