France Responds to Drone Incursion Over Nuclear Submarine Base

The French military activated anti-drone measures following the sighting of five unmanned aerial vehicles over the Ile Longue base, which houses nuclear ballistic submarines. This incident occurred at approximately 19:30 (18:30 GMT) on Thursday, according to a source familiar with the operation. The marine battalion responsible for the protection of the base initiated a search operation in response to the drone activity.

Investigation and Security Measures

Although specific details regarding the anti-drone measures remain undisclosed, the military prosecutor’s office in Rennes is set to launch a judicial investigation into the incident. Guillaume Le Rasle, spokesman for the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture, confirmed that the sensitive infrastructure was not compromised during the drone flights. He emphasized that it is “too early to determine” the origin of the drones but noted that their presence appeared to be intended to “cause concern among the population.”

The recent trend of unauthorized drone flights over critical military and industrial sites has raised alarm across Europe.
