Former federal politician and Indigenous activist Jody Wilson-Raybould announced that she has commenced treatment for breast cancer following surgery. In a heartfelt social media post, she shared the news with her followers, expressing her gratitude for the support she has received throughout her journey.

Wilson-Raybould, who served as the federal justice minister and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville in 2015, stated that while the diagnosis is “scary and unsettling,” she draws strength from the resilience stories shared by others. She highlighted her appreciation for the care provided by her surgeons and the B.C. Cancer Agency, which has been instrumental in her treatment process.

Political Career and Advocacy

Throughout her political career, Wilson-Raybould championed various issues, particularly those affecting Indigenous communities. She was appointed Attorney General in the Justin Trudeau government but resigned from the cabinet in 2019 amid a political scandal that drew national attention. She later won a second term as an independent candidate.

After choosing not to run in the 2021 election, Wilson-Raybould shifted her focus to writing. She has authored or co-authored four books, including her latest project on leadership, which she is collaborating on with Roshan Danesh, a lawyer based in Victoria.

As part of her advocacy, Wilson-Raybould is encouraging individuals to prioritize their health by scheduling regular mammograms and screenings for various cancers and illnesses.

In her message, she emphasized the importance of resilience and shared her hope to continue contributing to public discourse through her writing. As she embarks on this new chapter in her health journey, her commitment to raising awareness about women’s health remains steadfast.
