Yorkville Public Library Unveils Exciting February Programs for Families
The Yorkville Public Library has announced a series of engaging programs for families throughout February 2024. With activities ranging from interactive story times to creative workshops, the library aims to provide enriching experiences for children and their caregivers.
Library hours are Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 19:00, Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, and Saturday from 09:00 to 16:00. For those who prefer not to enter the library, curbside service remains available. Note that the library will be closed on February 16.
Family Activities and Workshops
One of the highlights this month is the Escape Room Adventure, where families can work together to solve puzzles and unlock boxes within a 30-minute time limit. Interested participants can contact the Youth Services Department at 630-553-4354, ext. 108 to schedule an appointment.
Virtual learning continues with a 3D Printing tutorial led by Leah English. Participants will learn to use Tinkercad, a beginner-friendly CAD design tool, to create objects for printing. The library’s YouTube channel hosts step-by-step guides, and printed items will cost $0.20 per gram. Submissions can be sent to [email protected].
Additionally, families can enjoy drop-in story time every Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s area, featuring a special reader from The Friends of the Library.
Reading Challenges and Creative Arts
The library is also hosting a Winter Read Challenge, which runs until February 28. Participants can pick up a reading tracker and receive a free set of mythical creature playing cards. For every 120 minutes of reading, participants will earn a new family of mythical creatures.
Art enthusiasts can create window art from February 2 to 7, choosing the day and time that suits them. Registration is required, as space is limited.
Among the other activities, Mommy and Me Yoga sessions on February 3 and 17 encourage bonding through yoga based on beloved children’s stories. The library also offers a LEGO Kits program from February 9 to 14, where children can use themed containers of LEGOs to build unique creations.
The Stuffie Sleepover on February 6 invites children to drop off their stuffed animals for a night filled with library adventures, including crafts and movies. Participants can collect their stuffed animals the following morning.
As February progresses, various themed events such as Valentines for Veterans and nature walks at Harris Forest Preserve on February 11 will provide opportunities for community engagement and creative expression.
With a diverse range of programs, the Yorkville Public Library continues to foster a love of learning and creativity in children and families throughout the month of February. For further details and registration, visit the library’s website.
