Plano Library Unveils Exciting Programs for February and March
Plano Library has announced an engaging lineup of programs for adults and children throughout February and March 2024. These activities aim to foster community interaction, creativity, and personal development.
Adult Programs
The adult programs kick off with “Yoga with Jen,” scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, specifically on February 20 and February 27. Participants can enjoy a stress-relieving yoga session led by certified instructor Jen Penn. This no-pressure class welcomes all skill levels, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own mats or use one provided by the library.
Another highlight is the “Plot Twisters Book Club,” meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. on February 24. This month, the group will discuss the thriller “Listen for the Lie” by Amy Tintera. Registration is required due to limited space, and books will be available for pickup at the Checkout Desk.
For aspiring writers, the “Writers Group” will gather on February 26 and March 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.. This informal gathering allows participants to discuss their work, either in person or via Zoom. No registration is needed for this open event.
On March 7, the library will provide “Crafts to Go,” featuring free take-home kits for painting ceramic owls, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Technology support is also on offer with a “Technology Help Desk” session on March 10 from 12 to 1 p.m.. Attendees can receive assistance from tech expert Steve Goodwin regarding their devices, ensuring they are equipped to navigate the digital world effectively.
Additionally, the “New Life for Old Bags” initiative invites community members to help create sleeping mats for the homeless using plastic shopping bags. This event takes place on March 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. For further details, interested individuals can contact Ceil Carey at [email protected] or 708-846-1704.
Children’s Programs
For younger audiences, the library’s children’s programs include a “Wind Tunnel Workshop” on February 24 at 5 p.m.. This hands-on experience allows children aged 6 to 12 to explore the science of flight by designing and testing paper helicopters.
The “Bookworms” program, set for March 3 from 5 to 5:45 p.m., will engage children in storytelling, crafts, and healthy snacks. This program is designed for independent students in grades K-3, and registration is required.
On March 5, the “Create Art with Petite Palette” session will allow children aged 6 to 18 to create their own acrylic paintings on canvas. Separate classes will be held for different age groups, with a $5 fee due at registration.
A workshop titled “What is Sound?” will take place on March 9, offering two sessions for children aged 6-8 and 9-12. This interactive experience will encourage creativity while exploring sound science.
The “Pizza & Pages” event on March 10 will invite children to read a shared book and discuss it over pizza. There will be two sessions, from 5 to 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., with registration required.
Finally, “Rhyme Time” sessions are scheduled for February 25 and March 4 and 11, providing interactive storytime for children aged birth to 36 months, accompanied by an adult. Active participation from parents is encouraged, and registration is necessary.
