Full Circle Lithium Corp. has announced that its FCL-XTM lithium battery fire extinguisher manufacturing plant in Toronto is now operating at full capacity. This milestone comes as the company prepares for a significant retail rollout in April 2026, aiming to meet rising consumer demand for fire safety products related to lithium-ion batteries.

The FCL-XTM extinguishers will be available in major home improvement and specialty retail outlets across North America. In addition to consumer sales, Full Circle Lithium is also targeting larger industrial and commercial clients, offering solutions tailored for their specific needs.

Addressing a Growing Safety Concern

The surge in lithium-ion battery usage has led to a corresponding increase in fire incidents, highlighting the urgent need for specialized firefighting solutions. According to the City of Toronto Fire Services, the city experienced a total of 76 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries in 2024, a notable increase of 38% from the previous year and a staggering 162% compared to 2022. This alarming trend has prompted public safety advisories regarding battery charging and storage practices.

In the United States, fire authorities are witnessing similar patterns. National fire data estimates indicate that U.S. fire departments respond to approximately 1,500 residential fires annually involving batteries, with lithium-ion batteries becoming an increasingly significant contributor as e-bikes, portable power stations, and home energy systems gain popularity.

Traditional fire extinguishers, classified as ABC multipurpose, are generally designed to tackle ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, and electrical fires. However, they are not equipped to effectively manage lithium-ion thermal runaway events, which can reignite and produce extreme heat and hazardous gases.

Consumer Preparedness and Education

The FCL-XTM lithium battery fire extinguisher is specifically engineered to combat lithium battery fires, providing a targeted suppression strategy that conventional extinguishers lack. With lithium-powered devices becoming standard in homes, workplaces, and garages, preparedness is crucial for consumer safety.

Carlos Vicens, CEO of Full Circle Lithium, emphasized the importance of addressing fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. “As lithium-ion batteries become increasingly embedded in everyday life, the associated fire risks require a dedicated response,” he stated. “Operating at full-plant capacity for the extinguisher product line ensures we are ready to meet retail demand. Every household and workspace with lithium-powered devices should be equipped with the proper tool—traditional fire extinguishers alone are not sufficient for this evolving risk.”

The launch in April will be accompanied by extensive consumer education initiatives focused on safe battery handling, proper charging practices, and emergency preparedness.

Beyond production, Full Circle Lithium is also planning the development of an on-site lithium battery burn and training facility. This integrated site will support live burn testing, first-responder training programs, and validation initiatives for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), establishing a central hub for manufacturing and advancing lithium safety measures.

Full Circle Lithium Corp. positions itself as a leader in the lithium product sector, committed to providing sustainable solutions for battery safety. Its flagship product, the FCL-XTM, features a proprietary, non-hazardous, water-based fire-extinguishing agent designed to address the rising threat of lithium-ion battery fires. With a dedicated technical team, the company is focused on delivering effective and environmentally responsible fire mitigation technologies.
