Millet Town Council Approves 2% Tax Increase for 2026 Budget
Millet Town Council has approved a 2% tax increase as part of the 2026 Operating Budget, a decision made during a meeting on November 20, 2023. The council reviewed a draft of the budget and made several amendments, ensuring that essential services will be maintained at the same level as in 2025.
In the approved budget, key allocations include $40,000 for IT support, $15,000 for traffic enforcement, $8,500 for the Millet Museum, and $25,000 earmarked for hiring additional administrative staff. Other budget items include $5,000 for the Millet Public Library, $1,500 for the Millet Fire Department, and $2,000 for training under the Millet in Bloom initiative.
The council has opted to freeze their wages, along with the salary of the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, as part of their financial prudence. Reserve contributions have also been outlined, with $57,069 allocated to the General Reserve, $150,000 to the Equipment Reserve, and $20,400 to the Fire Department Reserve.
The tax increase, alongside an earlier approved rise in franchise fees, is intended to support the maintenance of current service levels within the community. The council aims to ensure that residents continue to receive essential services without significant disruptions.
Looking ahead, the council plans to present a 10-year Capital Plan in January, which is expected to outline further financial strategies and objectives for the town’s development.
This decision reflects a commitment to both fiscal responsibility and community services, showcasing the council’s focus on balancing budgetary needs with the welfare of Millet residents.
