Porter Airlines Unveils New Winter Routes from Ottawa to Sunny Destinations
Canadian air carrier Porter Airlines has launched its winter schedule from Ottawa International Airport (YOW), introducing non-stop flights to several popular sunny destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica. This expansion now allows travelers to fly directly from YOW to Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, and Cancun, enhancing travel options for winter vacationers.
The new routes include non-stop services to Grand Cayman and Liberia, making Porter the only airline providing exclusive access to these popular locales. With a total of 24 non-stop routes now available, Porter Airlines offers more flights from YOW than any other carrier.
Porter’s new non-stop services from YOW operate as follows:
– To Nassau: once a week
– To Puerto Vallarta: six times a week
– To Cancun: six times a week
– To Liberia: daily
– To Grand Cayman: twice a week
These flights are serviced by Porter’s Embraer E195-E2, a modern aircraft featuring a 132-seat capacity and a two-by-two seating configuration, which eliminates middle seats for added passenger comfort. Detailed flight schedules and booking information can be found on their website at flyporter.com.
Union Developments Amid Route Expansion
The launch of these new routes coincides with significant developments regarding labor relations at Porter Airlines. The Canadian Airline Dispatchers Association (CALDA), representing the airline’s flight dispatchers, announced it would be in a legal position to strike as of January 20, 2026, if ongoing contract negotiations do not reach a resolution.
CALDA indicated that its members voted unanimously in favor of potential job action, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Negotiations are currently in their final stages, with federal mediators facilitating discussions. Incoming CALDA national president Mark Yezovich stated that negotiations are set to conclude on December 29.
As Porter Airlines continues to expand its route offerings, the airline faces the challenge of navigating labor negotiations while striving to meet the growing travel demands of its customer base.
