Salmon Arm Council Advances Drive-Thru and Liquor Store Project
A development permit application for a new commercial project has been submitted to the Salmon Arm City Council. The proposal includes plans for two buildings at 3091 9th Ave. SW, located west of SmartCentres. The project aims to enhance local amenities with the addition of a drive-thru restaurant, a liquor store, a fuel station, and a convenience store.
The larger building, measuring approximately 8,004 square feet, will house a quick-service drive-thru restaurant, a liquor store, and a retail unit. The second structure, about 3,538 square feet, is designated for a fuel station and another drive-thru restaurant. The development also plans for 74 parking stalls and two loading spaces, with access provided via 9th Avenue SE.
The Salmon Arm City Council recently approved a zoning amendment, allowing the property to be rezoned from C-4 to CD-26. This change is necessary to accommodate the proposed liquor store. As the total area of the buildings is under 4,500 square metres, the application was not referred to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit for review, as that is the ministry’s threshold for consideration.
Support for the development was endorsed during the February 2, 2024, meeting of the development and planning services committee. The application is set to proceed to the council meeting on February 9, 2024, where it will be reviewed for final approval.
This proposed project is part of a broader effort to improve commercial offerings in the west end of Salmon Arm, responding to growing community needs for accessible services and amenities. With the potential for increased traffic and economic activity, it reflects the city’s continued commitment to development and growth.
