Todd Kyllo Appointed to Sicamous Planning and Development Committee
A familiar face has returned to the District of Sicamous council chambers as Todd Kyllo has been appointed to the planning and development committee. This decision follows the resignation of longtime committee member Deb Heap at the end of 2025. Kyllo, a former councillor and owner of Twin Anchors Marine, will serve a two-year term starting from January 1, 2026.
Appointment Process and Committee Goals
The appointment was made by Mayor Colleen Anderson after consulting with fellow committee members, Councillors Ian Baillie and Gord Bushell. The trio reviewed submitted applications as part of their selection process. “Based on the terms of reference, we were looking for a lot of experience in development and knowledge on permits, zoning and variances, and felt that Todd at this point would be a great choice,” Anderson stated during the Committee of the Whole meeting on January 14.
Kyllo’s extensive experience includes his role as chair of the Sicamous Narrows Environmental Enhancement Society and his position on the Economic Development Corporation. These roles provide him with relevant insights that will benefit the planning and development efforts in Sicamous.
Welcoming Kyllo to the Committee
Kyllo attended his first committee meeting on January 22, where Councillor Baillie officially welcomed him. Baillie took a moment to acknowledge Heap’s significant contributions to the community, expressing gratitude for her years of service. “Thank you for stepping up and serving your community. You’re filling some pretty big shoes after Deb has decided, after many years of service, to go off and pursue one of her other hundreds of things she does for this community,” Baillie remarked, highlighting the importance of Kyllo’s commitment.
With Kyllo’s appointment, the planning and development committee aims to enhance its effectiveness in addressing local development needs and community planning initiatives. As discussions advance, Kyllo’s expertise is expected to play a vital role in shaping future projects in the District of Sicamous.
In related news, the Shuswap marine search and rescue team reported a total of 25 calls in early 2025, while Sicamous drivers should prepare for delays on side streets due to ongoing road work.
