Belle River High School Engages Community with Winter Events
Belle River District High School (BRDHS) has been vibrant this winter, hosting a series of engaging events that connected current and prospective students with the local community. The activities aimed to foster school spirit and support families in need.
Winter Warmth and Community Engagement
On December 18, current students participated in a community skate at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, followed by the annual Winter Warmth charity hockey game. The BRDHS boys hockey team faced off against the Erie Migrations Coyotes. Community members, including future students, were invited to cheer on the teams while contributing to a good cause by donating warm clothing and canned goods for local families.
Experiencing Life as a Noble
In late November and early December, BRDHS opened its doors to local elementary school students for the “Noble for a Day” initiative. On November 28 and December 4, students had the chance to experience high school life firsthand. Aleena Holmes, a student from Lakeshore Discovery School, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Grade 9 day was really fun. I got to meet lots of teachers and students.” Participants selected three classes to attend, including Technological Design, where they created Noble stickers, and Computer Technologies, where they engaged with microbits.
The initiative provided an exciting introduction to high school for these future Nobles, allowing them to connect with current students and teachers.
Spreading Holiday Cheer
The annual Noble Holiday Trolley, held on December 3, continued the tradition of spreading joy within the community. The BRDHS band, drama students, and dance team performed at Centennial Central Public School, Lakeshore Discovery School, and Belle River Public School. Their performances included seasonal music, a play focused on kindness and sharing, and a Christmas dance. Music teacher and band director Mr. Walstedt noted, “The excitement from the crowd was contagious, and a great time was had by all.” This event has been a cherished tradition since 2017, aiming to bring happiness to younger students.
Connecting New Families with BRDHS
On November 25, BRDHS hosted a Grade 9 Open House to welcome prospective students and their families. The event featured activities and trivia in the gym, allowing future students to interact with current peers. Ms. Moison, head of the guidance department, stated, “The event captured the genuine sense of community and care that makes Belle River High School an amazing place to learn and grow.” Parents had the opportunity to explore the school and discuss classes and programs with teachers, further integrating them into the Noble community.
With a successful season of community outreach and engagement, Belle River District High School continues to foster a welcoming environment for every new member of the Noble family. This commitment to building connections within the community reflects the school’s values and vision for the future.
