Belle River High School Engages Community Through Winter Events
Belle River District High School (BRDHS) has been actively engaging its community during the winter months through a series of events designed to bring together current students, future students, and local residents. From charity games to open houses, the school has created opportunities for connection and celebration.
Community Events Foster School Spirit
On December 18, current Nobles participated in a community skate at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre. The event culminated in the annual Winter Warmth charity hockey game, where the Nobles boys hockey team faced off against the Erie Migrations Coyotes. Community members, including prospective students, were encouraged to attend and support the teams. Attendees contributed to the cause by bringing warm clothing and canned goods, which were donated to local families in need.
In the lead-up to these events, local elementary school students had the chance to experience life as a Noble. On November 28 and December 4, BRDHS hosted students for a “Noble for a Day” event. Aleena Holmes, a participant from Lakeshore Discovery School, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Grade 9 day was really fun. I got to meet lots of teachers and students.” Students engaged in various classes, including Technological Design, where they created Noble stickers, and Computer Technologies, where they worked with microbits.
Holiday Celebrations and Open Houses
The annual Noble Holiday Trolley on December 3 was another highlight of the winter season. The school’s band, drama students, and dance team visited Centennial Central Public School, Lakeshore Discovery School, and Belle River Public School to spread holiday cheer. They performed seasonal music, presented a play focusing on kindness and sharing, and showcased their Christmas dance. Music teacher and band director Mr. Walstedt noted, “The excitement from the crowd was contagious and a great time was had by all.” This tradition, which began in 2017, continues to bring joy and connection to younger students.
On November 25, BRDHS welcomed future Noble families for its Grade 9 Open House. Attendees participated in activities and trivia in the gym alongside current students. The head of the guidance department, Ms. Moison, remarked, “The event captured the genuine sense of community and care that makes Belle River High School an amazing place to learn and grow.” Parents and students explored the school and engaged with teachers about the classes and programs available at BRDHS.
This series of winter events demonstrates the commitment of Belle River District High School to foster a sense of community and belonging. With such enthusiastic participation, the future looks bright for all new members of the Noble family.
