Campbell River Celebrates Family Literacy Week 2026 with Engaging Events
The **Campbell River Literacy Association** has announced the schedule for **Family Literacy Week 2026**, set to take place from **January 24 to January 30**. This year’s theme, “Let’s Make Mealtime Family Learning Time,” aims to promote learning through everyday activities, particularly during family meals and grocery shopping.
According to **Kat Eddy**, Executive Director of the Campbell River Literacy Association, the initiative encourages parents to recognize the educational opportunities present in routine tasks. Eddy stated, “Parents are busy and sometimes don’t realize the learning, conversation, and connection opportunities that can happen during everyday tasks like grocery shopping.” The association designed this year’s scavenger hunt to engage families with children aged **2 to 12**, fostering learning and connection while shopping for groceries.
Engaging Activities for Families
All activities during Family Literacy Week are free and family-friendly. A significant highlight includes a grocery store scavenger hunt designed for young children, which families can complete in their local communities. To facilitate participation, digital downloads of the scavenger hunt materials will be available on the **literacyforall.ca** website, with paper copies distributed at various events throughout the week.
The **Tidemark Theatre Angels program** is supporting the initiative by offering a free community show on **January 27**. The performance will feature **Kym Gouchie**, a Juno-nominated artist known for her engaging and family-oriented performances.
The week kicks off with an evening adventure at the **Maritime Heritage Centre** on **January 24**, where families can explore the exhibits together. Additionally, a free community swim will be hosted at **Strathcona Gardens** on **January 25** from **1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.**
Encouraging Family Learning
The aim of Family Literacy Week 2026 is to create an environment where families can learn, play, and connect. By transforming daily moments into opportunities for discovery and conversation, the event seeks to remind parents that they are their children’s first and most important teachers.
A full schedule of events can be accessed through the **Campbell River Literacy Association’s** social media channels, inviting families to engage in a week dedicated to education and togetherness. The association encourages all community members to participate and make the most of these learning experiences.
