Campbell River Literacy Week 2026: Family Learning Through Mealtime
The Cambell River Literacy Association has officially announced the celebration of Family Literacy Week 2026, scheduled from January 24 to 30. This year’s theme, “Let’s Make Mealtime Family Learning Time,” emphasizes the potential for learning and connection during everyday activities. The initiative aims to highlight how parents can engage their children in educational moments while grocery shopping and during meals.
Kat Eddy, Executive Director and event organizer, stated, “Parents are busy and sometimes don’t realize the learning, conversation, and connection opportunities that can happen during everyday tasks like grocery shopping.” The association’s events are designed to remind families that they are their children’s first and best teachers, encouraging learning in any setting.
Engaging Activities for Families
This year’s programming includes a unique scavenger hunt aimed at parents with children aged 2 to 12. This activity allows families to learn together while shopping for groceries, reinforcing the idea that educational moments can take place in various environments. Participants can access digital downloads of the scavenger hunt at literacyforall.ca, with printed copies available at events.
The week will feature a range of free, family-friendly activities, including a community show at the Tidemark Theatre. Scheduled for January 27, this event will showcase Kym Gouchie, a Juno-nominated performer, as part of the Families Learning Together program.
The festivities will commence at the Maritime Heritage Centre on January 24, where families can explore exhibits in an engaging evening adventure. Additionally, a free community swim will take place at Strathcona Gardens on January 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Connecting Through Learning
The Campbell River Literacy Association encourages families to participate in these events, transforming everyday moments into opportunities for discovery, conversation, and shared learning experiences. The full schedule for Family Literacy Week 2026 will be available on the association’s social media channels.
This initiative not only promotes literacy but also strengthens family bonds through interactive learning experiences. By engaging in activities together, families can create lasting memories while fostering a love for learning in their children.
