Join the Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association and Reconnect Today
The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively seeking new members, inviting former students, teachers, and community members to join. Founded in 1993, the association aims to foster connections and support the goals of the school, which is the oldest secondary school in Surrey.
Alan Clegg, a founding member and former chairman of the LTAA, emphasizes the importance of membership. He notes that joining the association provides an excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends and revive friendships that may have faded over time. “Some people left the school and kept up with modern technology and stayed in touch with their classmates,” Clegg explained. “But there are some classes that went different directions—the school is over a hundred years old—now years later, in life, they’re trying to get together and renew some old friendships.”
Clegg highlights the association’s role as a central hub for alumni. “It’s kind of a centre-thing and can help the school and can assist people—whether they’re organizing reunions or get-togethers or something,” he said. This community support is vital for maintaining the bonds formed during school years.
Celebrating Milestones and Supporting Students
The LTAA has organized three significant reunions over the years, each tied to pivotal events in the school’s history. The first reunion took place in 1993, coinciding with the opening of the new high school and the demolition of the old one. The second was held in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, followed by a centennial reunion in 2012 to honor the school’s 100-year anniversary. Clegg stated, “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary.”
While there are currently no major reunions planned, Clegg mentioned that several graduating classes continue to hold reunions annually. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he noted.
The association has also made a significant impact on the school community through scholarships. Since its inception, the LTAA has contributed over $120,000 to support graduating students. “We support our school in many ways,” Clegg explained, highlighting the organization’s commitment to educational advancement.
