Alumni Association Welcomes New Members to Strengthen Bonds

The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively inviting new members to join its community. According to Alan Clegg, a founding member and past chairman, membership is available to any former student, teacher, or community member interested in supporting the school’s objectives. Clegg emphasizes that becoming a member offers an excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends and revive relationships that may have faded over time.

Many alumni have successfully maintained connections through modern technology, but there are those whose paths diverged after graduation. With the school being over a century old, Clegg notes that many individuals are now seeking to rekindle friendships. “The association serves as a hub to assist people in organizing reunions or gatherings,” he explained. “Our main goal is to remind everyone that a supportive network remains long after we have left.”

Reunions Mark Significant Milestones

The LTAA has organized three notable school reunions since its inception. These gatherings included an event in 1993 to celebrate the opening of the new high school alongside the demolition of the old one, a celebration in 2000 for the new millennium, and a reunion in 2012 to commemorate the school’s centennial anniversary. Clegg proudly remarked, “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary. We are the oldest secondary school in Surrey.”

Currently, there are no formal reunions planned, although Clegg noted that graduating classes often hold their own reunions each year. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he stated.

Supporting Future Generations

Founded as a registered society in 1993, the alumni association has taken significant steps to support the school community. Clegg highlighted that the LTAA has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships to graduating students since its establishment.
