Kativik School Board Welcomes Muncy Novalinga as New Commissioner

The Kativik School Board has appointed a new commissioner to represent Puvirnituq, with Muncy Novalinga officially sworn in on December 2. This announcement was made by the board, highlighting Novalinga’s role within the council of commissioners, which serves as the highest authority for the educational body.

Novalinga was acclaimed during an election held in Puvirnituq, succeeding Theresa Etok, who resigned from her position. The council consists of 14 public representatives, each elected from different communities across Nunavik, and members serve three-year terms.

Role of the Kativik School Board

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, the governing body for educational services in Nunavik, is tasked with providing education primarily in Inuktitut, with French and English offered as second languages. The board operates a total of 18 primary and secondary schools, along with six adult education centres, catering to the diverse needs of the region’s residents.
