North Island College Hosts Workshop on Legacy Giving Strategies
North Island College (NIC) is set to hold an informative workshop focused on legacy matching and planned giving on March 12. This session aims to educate participants on the benefits and strategies of incorporating legacy donations into their estate plans. Legacy donations, often facilitated through wills or estate plans, can involve cash or assets designated to charities long after the donor’s lifetime.
The workshop will feature two experts from the NIC Foundation Board: Shane Landreville and Nicole Deters. Deters, a professional financial planner and licensed insurance agent, emphasizes the importance of effective financial planning. “Thoughtful estate and financial planning aren’t just about protecting your assets today. They’re intentionally shaping tomorrow,” Deters explained. She believes that integrating charitable giving, such as legacy donations, can create lasting impacts that benefit both the donor and the community.
Exploring the Impact of Legacy Donations
The event will highlight the significance of legacy donations in supporting NIC Foundation’s Future 50 Legacy Match campaign. Deters remarked, “Legacy giving turns your values into opportunities that echo for decades.” The workshop will provide insights into effective strategies for charitable contributions, including the use of trusts and emerging trends in philanthropy.
Participants will have the chance to enter a draw for a complimentary legal will, prepared by Landreville, who practices law with a focus on estate, tax, trust, corporate, and commercial law. He recognizes the profound benefits of legacy giving. “Legacy donations provide opportunity year after year, long after the initial gift is made,” Landreville noted. He added that these contributions can alleviate financial burdens for students, enabling them to pursue their passions more deeply and contribute to their communities with greater confidence.
Event Details and Expectations
The upcoming session will take place at the Campbell River campus of NIC from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.. Attendees can expect a presentation filled with practical tools and strategies for charitable giving, both during their lifetime and beyond. The workshop will also feature real-life examples of legacy in action, demonstrating how individuals can align their values with a lasting impact.
NIC encourages community members interested in legacy giving to participate in this workshop. By attending, individuals can gain valuable insights that not only help them plan their estates but also contribute positively to future generations.
